AI-Powered Survey Design: How to Build Better Surveys in Seconds

Discover how AI question suggestions and auto-translation help HR teams design more effective employee surveys faster — without starting from a blank page.

One of the biggest barriers to running great employee surveys isn't the analysis — it's the design. Staring at a blank question editor wondering whether you've covered the right ground, whether the wording will resonate, and whether you've missed something important.

TruePulse now includes AI-powered question suggestions and automatic translation, both powered by Claude AI. Here's how they work and why they matter for HR teams.

AI question suggestions: from goal to questions in seconds

Instead of browsing a library of 1,000+ questions, you describe your campaign goal in plain English — and TruePulse suggests the most relevant questions automatically.

For example: type "Understand why our junior engineers are disengaging after 12 months" and the AI will surface questions from recognition, career growth, psychological safety, and manager effectiveness categories that are statistically most relevant to early-tenure attrition in engineering teams.

This works because the AI reasons about which questions, across which categories, are most likely to uncover the signal you're looking for — rather than just returning keyword matches.

How it differs from a keyword search

A keyword search for "career" would return every question with "career" in the text. AI suggestions reason about intent. "Why are junior engineers leaving?" surfaces questions about:

  • Whether their work feels meaningful (career growth)
  • Whether they feel safe to raise concerns (psychological safety)
  • Whether their contributions are acknowledged (recognition)
  • Whether their manager gives useful feedback (manager effectiveness)

None of those questions contain the word "career" — but all of them are causally related to early-tenure attrition. That's the difference AI makes.

Multi-language surveys: automatic translation per employee

If your team spans multiple countries, running a survey in English only creates a participation gap. Employees who are less fluent in English give shorter, less candid answers. They may skip open-text fields entirely. You get incomplete data from the people who could give you the most localised signal.

TruePulse's translation feature works at two levels:

  1. Admin translation: From the survey editor, click "Translate" to generate French, German, or Spanish versions of all questions in one batch. Review them, edit if needed, and save.
  2. Automatic rendering: When an employee opens their survey link, TruePulse checks their locale setting and renders questions in their language automatically. No separate survey, no manual routing — the same campaign serves multilingual teams.

Conditional skip logic: adaptive surveys

The other dimension of better survey design is relevance. Showing a question about remote work experience to employees who work in-office every day creates noise — they'll answer neutrally or skip it, which dilutes your data.

TruePulse's conditional skip logic lets you show or hide questions based on previous answers. For example: only show the remote work satisfaction question to employees who answered "Yes, I work remotely" to the preceding question. The result is a shorter, more relevant survey for every employee — which means higher completion rates and cleaner data.

Getting started

All three features — AI question suggestions, translation, and skip logic — are available in the survey editor. Open any survey, click "Suggest" to generate AI-curated question recommendations, "Translate" to add multilingual support, or edit any question to add conditional logic.
